Our central Kansas City location is ideal for guests traveling from all areas of the metropolitan area. We are within walking distance of both the Westin Crown Center and Hyatt Regency hotels.
Along with serving only the freshest and most creative cuisine, we utilize beautiful Riedel stemware, Bernardaud plateware, Frette linens and silver flatware as part of every dining experience. When hosting an event at The American Restaurant, you will not incur a “room rental fee,” as is the standard at venues across the area. Tables are set with fresh, seasonal floral arrangements and for evening events, we add small votives for an intimate and elegant atmosphere.
Upper Dining Room
The spacious Upper Dining Room offers the most space for your private dining event. With floor-to-ceiling windows, guests can take in sweeping views of the ever-changing Kansas City skyline and the Main Dining Room below. Our Upper Dining Room is located on the top floor of the restaurant. We can comfortably accommodate up to 78 guests for a seated dinner or 100 guests for a standing reception. This room is ideal for client entertaining, rehearsal dinners and small wedding receptions, dinner presentations and board or partner dinners. For the convenience and comfort of your guests, we are able to maintain a bar in the Upper Dining Room. This area of the restaurant offers complete privacy for your guests.
Window Balcony
The Window Balcony offers floor-to-ceiling northern windows with views of activity in the Crown Center courtyard below and the Kansas City skyline. The view provides an excellent backdrop for social celebrations. Seating in the Window Balcony is semi-private and located on its own level of the restaurant. Conference-style seating accommodates up to 22 guests at one table and two oval tables will provide seating for up to 24 guests. For larger events, we can accommodate up to 32 guests at four round tables of eight. Smaller receptions of up to 45 guests can also be accommodated in the Window Balcony.
Wine Room
Our intimate Wine Room is located just off of the main dining room floor. The perfect setting for a small presentation or closing dinner, this room comfortably accommodates up to 16 guests at either a conference-style table or two round tables of eight. The wine room can accommodate both completely private or semi-private events.
